GPT Image 2.6 vs 2.5: keep the workflow or change the output?
Separate a new deliverable from an existing still-image pipeline. Evaluate compatibility and usable results before migrating.
Editorial comparison, not a broad model benchmark. Unless explicitly labeled as GPT model test results, images are existing prompt-library examples with unverified original settings. The 2.5 vs 2.6 portrait section includes two new matched-prompt GPT Image outputs and their request records.

Displayed snapshot: November 2, 2026; inspected November 6. Its cutoff predates the public 2.6 release, so the update alignment is unclear. Treat these as displayed historical values, not a verified November 6 ranking. Quality labels and vote counts differ.

What the evidence supports
The snapshot does not show a universal 2.6 quality lead: 2.5 Sunburst is ahead on both displayed boards, but the 2.6 entry is Medium, preliminary and much smaller in vote count. Our high-quality portrait pair is a different setting.
The concrete upgrade case is a new output workflow. For an existing still-image pipeline, check usable outputs and Batch eligibility before migrating. Equal token rates do not mean equal cost per accepted image.

Keep a working still-image baseline

If an existing 2.5 workflow already delivers accepted product images, a version number alone is not a reason to replace it. Save several prompts, reference files and approved outputs. Re-run those briefs and compare small details before switching production.
Check the file, not just the preview
For a new GIF or SVG deliverable, test the actual download in the destination app. Inspect motion at the loop seam, or open SVG paths in a vector editor. This studio exposes these formats on 2.6; it does not offer a side-by-side 2.5 run or claim these examples prove a quality improvement.
Budget for accepted results

A per-token API rate and a browser credit pack measure different things. Include input images, output settings, failed attempts and manual cleanup in your comparison. Keep your old integration until the new workflow passes its acceptance checks.
GPT Image 2.5 vs 2.6: the same portrait prompt
GPT Image 2.5 vs GPT Image 2.6 model test on November 6, 2026: Sunburst, 864×1536, high quality, opaque background, PNG, one image per model, identical prompt. No reference image or seed was supplied. Model-specific defaults may differ. These two individual results do not establish an overall quality ranking. Original files and request records are linked below.
What differs in these two results
| Aspect | GPT Image 2.6 · Sunburst | GPT Image 2.5 · Sunburst |
|---|---|---|
| Light and atmosphere | Brighter golden rim light, a more visible sun and stronger separation between the figure and background. | Softer illumination, with more muted highlights across the face and clothing. |
| Clothing and embroidery | Larger, more prominent floral embroidery and stronger folds around the raised knee and sleeves. | Smaller, subtler embroidery and a longer, more continuous fall of fabric toward the bottom of the frame. |
| Pose and composition | More frontal torso, one hand resting on the stone and a raised knee that anchors the foreground. | More side-on seated pose with the hands together; the lake occupies a larger open area behind the subject. |
| Background detail | More distinct lotus leaves, foreground flowers and illuminated willow leaves. | A quieter pond and distant pavilion, with less visual competition around the subject. |
How to use this result
For this brief, the 2.6 sample suits a dramatic, ornamental portrait; the 2.5 sample suits a quieter, softer scene. Both follow the requested willow, lotus-pond and silver-blue hanfu theme. The pose and framing differ, so this is not a pixel-aligned detail test. Neither sample establishes a general winner for faces, anatomy, speed or cost.
Exact prompt used for both models
The English text below was used unchanged for both GPT Image models.
An original cinematic semi-realistic fantasy portrait of a clearly adult East Asian woman, age 28, seated on a lakeside stone beneath trailing willow branches at golden hour. Long black hair with delicate pale lotus ornaments, elegant silver-blue embroidered silk hanfu with opaque bodice and modest neckline, airy outer sleeves, long skirt naturally draped over her legs. Three-quarter seated composition, vertical 9:16 framing. Warm golden backlight through leaves, soft mist, distant mountain silhouettes, a tranquil reflective pond and small pink lotus blossoms. Natural skin texture, individual hair strands, intricate silver embroidery, believable hands and anatomy, soft atmospheric depth. Can I compare 2.5 and 2.6 here?
No. Run the same brief in your existing 2.5 tool and this studio, then compare the downloaded files.
Will the same prompt reproduce the old image?
No exact reproduction is promised. Keep the accepted original and compare against your actual delivery requirements.
